With yours truly being short of spare time these days, not to mention energy, I'm just going to do a brief report on our back to back Limpsfield games versus Pilots and Farnborough. The Pilots game of course, was our first sans Stuart after his untimely, not to mention rather sickening injury, but latest news is that recovery is going well and hopefully it won't be long before he's back in our colours...It's eerily quiet out there without you mate. Actually, we're all dropping like flies, with Scott pulling up lame on the morning of the match, Colin still laid low, and even the redoubtable Marty Mashpud unable to take his place in our line-up due to injury. All this meant Keith was summoned from his lilo after a mere two hours sleep and for the first time in my time on board, Beechwood were unable to field eleven men for a fixture...The well has finally dried up for The DoC!
At least we had Treve available to bolster the middle-order, and his presence was even more valuable after a rare relative failure from Adrian at the top of the innings. Treve's 20-odd ball 60 was the main ingrediant of our innings, after a solid start from Tony, and Hamish and Woody in particular played well around him. 173 was a below par total according to The DoC, and you have to say that although we roll our eyes when we see the various wickets when we turn up at Limpsfield, they do play well so perhaps he had a point there, but nonetheless, after attempting to defend our various 120's and 130's at Otford this total seemed a gargantuan total. It wasn't to be though and with the help of a certain Mr Farid they made shortish work of getting to their total. I had a grandstand view of all this as it seemed that it was just us two playing the game for a while as I set about bowling about ten consecutive overs to him alone. These were either played and missed or dispatched to the boundary and it was a bit like bowling in the nets - only without them, if you get my drift. Woody eventually snared Mr Farid (93), who rather sportingly walked for an lbw shout (!), and although we were a man short we fielded like demons with Ade and Larry hanging on to some particularly impressive catches. Oh and although we were a man short and below par batting and bowling, at least Woody was on tea-duty which at least meant the interval would go smoothly. Top stuff Ashley.
Beechwood:
Brown, Cooksley, Culhane, Freeman (c), McLachlan, Makin, Morton (wk), Savory, Warner, Woodward
Final words from the DoC:
An unbelievable injury-list meant a Beechwood X! Still, I'm not sure a XV would have stopped Farid on the day. |
